Hot Springs

The Hot Springs around Lugu Lake have long been used by local people as a bathing pool. The water in the Springs is hot all year round and the temperature perfect for bathing. The water in the hot spring is not only crystal clean, but also has medicinal properties. It is said that the high content of hydrogen sulphide helps prevent skin disease and rheumatism.

Every autumn after the harvest period,locals gather here. People prepare food and find partners here, arriving at the hot springs either on horse or by foot.

The hot springs are actually a big pond, measuring 50 square meters. It used to be custom that men and women bathed together in the pond. Today, however, people have become more reserved and this custom no longer exists! But the water is as refreshing as ever,and guesthouses have been set up along the roads nearby to cater to tourists demands.

How to get there: The hot springs are very hard to reach, situated more than 20km from Yongning prefecture to the north of Lugu Lake. The road to the spring is rugged, and hiring a car is really the only option. For further details, please refer to the transportation overview.
