Gemu Mountain

Gemu Mountain by the banks of the Lugu Lake, is filled with local legend. For hundreds of years the mountain has been seen as a symbol of the relentless and hardworking attitude of the local people.Legend has it that a goddess once dwelled here, offering blessings and making young men more handsome and young girls more charming! The trees on the top of the mountain are said to resemble the goddesses hair, the white cloud on the mountainside her silk veil, Lugu Lake her torso and Yongning Dam her skirt.

In the 1940s, Biddhists constructed the Gemu Temple on the mountain which today contains a portrait of the Gemu Goddess. On June 25 of the lunar calendar each year, people from different minority groups come to the mountain to pray in the temple and hold a grand Buddhist parade.

How to get there:The Mountain is not far from Luoshui village right beside the lake, but the road to the mountain is in very poor condition. The best way to get to the mountain is to walk. A trek to the mountain and back will take the best part of a day but is fun and offers great scenery.
