Nanzhao Island

Nanzhao
Island is one of the best places to get a closer look at the rich
folk culture of the Bai people! The island is located on the northeastern
shore of Erhai Lake. On the island, there are several tranquil
Bai villages that make up the island more interesting. Countless
natural sights cover the island as well, such as caves, ancient
trees, white sand beaches with beautiful scenery. There are also
places to find accommodation, recreation and dining on the island.
How to get there: There are a lot of private boats for hire
near the Xiaguan docks in Erhai Lake Park. These private boats
are not large, but still typically can hold up to 20 person
and they usually do trips to Jingsuo Island, Little Putuo Island,
and the Guanyin Ge and then back to Xiaguan. For such a trip
(3-4 total hours), a boat can be hired for RMB150, but the boatmen
can be bargained to as low as RMB120 in off-season. If you show
up with large groups of 5-10 persons, then the boatmen will
charge around RMB50 per person. These prices are extremely negotiable.
You can even hire a boat to the northwestern banks of the lake
near Butterfly spring, but the fare may be as much as RMB300.
Please note when hiring private boats, entrance fees to local
sites are not included.
