16 kilometers (10 miles) northwest of the Turpan city, two sand hills studded with colorful sheds, parasols and tents is an ideal place for the Sand Therapy, which attracts swarms of tourists from June to August each year. Sand Therapy is a unique health treatment, which has a combined effect of massage, heat and magnetic treatment as well as heliotherapy. It can cure rheumatism, arthritis, lumbago and skin disease. Shaded under certain facilities, people, lying or sitting, bury their bodies with hot sand, dripping with sweat.
The whitewashed building nearby is the Sand Therapy Center, providing treatment rooms,
wards and canteens, with medical workers for auxiliary medical treatment. Board and lodging are also available in the center for patients.
